Best of Macworld

With so many new products from companies all over the globe at Macworld this year, I would like to take a minute to reflect on what we felt were some standouts. Lots of other blogs have a ‘Best Of’ approach that is focused on what they found to be the best, while our approach is about our customers, and what will benefit you the most. Of course, Apple leads the rest with their announcements, topped by the

MacBook Air
Macbook Air, the unbelievably thin, go-anywhere notebook computer. Time Capsule follows close behind, the innovative and fast way to stay connected and backed up—wirelessly. Read more about our trip to Macworld in our earlier blog posts.

After Apple, the company that stands head and shoulders above the rest is Belkin. Man, do they get it. Offering us a glimpse in to the future of a Mac user’s home, their vision may seem years ahead of it’s time, yet it is here. I was impressed with just about everything I saw in their booth, which simulated different rooms in a typical house. A few things that really stood out: Podcast Studio, a mobile podcasting and audio recording solution, fits in the palm of your hand. And the Laptop Hideaway is a simple idea that can benefit almost every household. They are also working on wireless HD technology for the home. Pretty cool stuff.

MacBook Air
Elgato continues to move closer to the ultimate TV recording solution. eyetv 3 was on display at Macworld, boasting a slick new interface and many great new features. From new search capabilities and network sharing, it also offers smart playlists and a video editor. I think this is a great compliment to the new Apple TV.

The Harmony One from Logitech, is a super slick device that lets you say goodbye to all those remote controls in your house. Simplify your home entertainment experience with this all-in-one customizable touch screen remote. A lot of us at MacForce use Logitech remotes, and this new version of the Harmony One puts the finishing touches on an already great product.

Kensington announced a new Notebook Docking Station with video support. With just one USB port, you can instantly turn your laptop in to a desktop with an extra monitor, without the hassle of dealing with any other connections.

The FastMac iV is an iPhone battery pack with great extras. It has a handy LED flash to help you get a better shot with the iPhone’s camera, removable belt clip and dockable bottom. Oh, and up to 24 hours of talk time!

The new Power Dock from Griffin Technologies charges up to four iPods or iPhones simultaneously. Now this is useful. Just imagine charging all your iPods in one place, with just one outlet.

MacBook Air
iFrogz has added a twist to their popular iPod Wrapz series, with the addition of three speakers in their new Audio Wrapz. With no extra power needed, you can now listen to your tunes without headphones.

XtremeMac introduced us to the Luna alarm clock last year. This year they are releasing the Luna 2. This fully customizable device boasts excellent sound, AM/FM radio, remote control, iPhone support and so much more. Another great innovation from these guys.

Adobe just announced Photoshop Elements 6 for the Mac. A perfect option for those digital photographers who need a little more power than iPhoto, but don’t need professional level software. With a redesigned interface and a lot more functions—like photo merge and online sharing—Elements 6 is surprisingly simple and powerful.

The music gaming phenomenon continues to grow with the release of Guitar Hero III. Now available on the Mac, you and your friends can be in that rock band you always dreamed of. See if you have what it takes to become a hero in the greatest gaming concert of all time. We saw a lot of mainstream games for the Mac platform this year, a great signal that gaming is coming back to the Mac in a big way.

Well, those are the things that really jumped out at us at Macworld this year. There are a lot of other great products that we will have the chance to look at as they are released this year. Make sure you check back to see what we think as they are rolled out.
